Black Reaper
Seriously, why do people feel the need to wear black at a funeral?
When I go out to a club I like to wear black, but when I go outside during the day I like to wear lighter colors. Is it because the Grim Reaper is dressed in black and is taking the person? Or its socially unacceptable to mourn in white? Why is death portrayed as dark? If you believe in the afterlife, do you feel the dead person is going somewhere dark and not somewhere light? I can understand if a younger person dies suddenly, you would feel loss. The younger person wasn't able to experience the joys life has to offer. But an older person or someone everybody knows is going to die, although sad, isn't sudden. So why wear black, you had time to mourn the loss. What does wearing black accomplish?
The funeral etiquette has changes drastically. Black is still traditional but not as customary as it has been. As long as a person looks respectable, that is all that counts. Funerals are turning to more of a celebration of a person's life, a party. In fact, according to NFDA, 14% of Baby Boomers poled would like a party instead of a funeral. All situations are different, just be sure to access the situation.
