Is this helmet okay for drag/autocross?
I have a HJC CL-X5 helmet that is Snell M2005 approved and DOT-218 approved. It is an open face helmet. Will this be allowed for track events? Looking to do drag and autocross.
Ultimately, this will depend on the rules for the track and/or organizers... but as a generalization, you are probably fine. Due to delays in the 2010 spec, 2005 is still current, and I am not aware of any Autocross organizers that require motorsports (ie, SA) rated helmets (most not only allow M rated helmets but typically will allow 1-2 revs back, meaning in some cases, an M1995 will remain valid until the 2010 spec is out).
As for drag racing, the few drag race venues I am familiar (which have drag racing in addition to their road courses) have such rules defined for general track use... and again, M rated helmets are usually ok (unless the organizer says different, as would be the case for any sanctioned racing). The one possible problem here would be if you have an open top car, most tracks will require full face helmets (no problem though if you have a hard top).
To be sure, check with the groups you are planning to run with (but I would be very suprised if an M2005 was not within their rules).
